When: April 27-29, 2007Hotel address: Holiday Inn Select City Centre
1111 Lakeside Avenue
Cleveland, OH 44114
The initial blocking for Notacon is 75 rooms and is good through April 12, 2007. After that, rooms in the block may be issued to others on an as-needed basis. Reserve your room early! Using Notacon's booking code entitles you to a discounted room rate, and helps defray our space costs. Both smoking and non-smoking rooms are available in single and double occupancy.
The Holiday Inn has been kind enough to provide us with an extraordinarily competitive rate of $79 per night for our block of rooms as well as reduced parking at a rate of $5 per day. Contrary to whatever their webpage may say, our contract states (and I have confirmed with the hotel) a rate of $5 per day.
Please note, the $5 parking rate is for attendees with hotel rooms only. The non-room parking rate is $14 per day.
We've added local maps! We have a pair of Google My Maps showing restaraunts and attractions around the hotel and around the greater Cleveland are. Thanks to Jason Scott for setting this up for us.
Logistics and Travel
Getting to the hotel and the Cleveland area is very easy. The hotel is:
- Within a short walk of the Amtrak station in Cleveland (or a very inexpensive cab ride)
- Within a short walk of the RTA train which comes straight in from the airport (Please exit at the North Coast station)
- Within a short walk of the Cleveland Greyhound station (or a very inexpensive cab ride...we'd suggest the cab)
- Located right off of Ohio Rte. 2, which can be accessed by I-90
- A short drive through downtown from I-90
Airport shuttle service is provided by The Ohio Connection for $10.00 per person each way with a minimum of two passengers. Single fare is $14.00 one way. For more information you can call (216) 299-6966. The Holiday Inn Select City Centre Lakeshore provides complimentary shuttle service within downtown, based on availability.
Parking: Parking at the hotel is $5 per day if you reserve a room or $14 per day without a room.
Locals are also encouraged to locate additional "cheap" parking near the hotel, if they desire. The Cleveland Municipal lot is a short walk to the hotel. It is rumored that the lot is $2.50 per day, and the North Point parking garage located nearby is approximately $9.00 per day. Check rates before parking. These rates are estimates based on experience. If a special event is in town, these rates will be different.
There will be Indians home games all three days of Notacon. 7:05pm on 4/27, 7:05pm on 4/28, and 1:05pm on 4/29. This means three things: Driving might be rough around those times, parking might be more expensive than usual and more restaraunts might be open. Keep this in mind when traveling around the area.
Getting to the hotel from the airport
- To take the RTA train: Take the Red Line from the aiport to Tower City. Exit the train at Tower city and from there, pick up the Waterfront line to the North Coast station. From there it is a somewhat short walk to the hotel. This will cost about $3.
- Take a cab.
- The hotel will provide limousine service for a charge of $10 to and from the airport. Please call them for more information at (800) 470-3431.
Coming from the East on I-90
Take I-90 west to downtown, stay in the right lines and merge onto Route 2. Stay on Route 2 about a mile or so to the East 9th exit. Go south on East 9th until you get to Lakeside (just over the bridge). Turn left on Lakeside. The hotel will be the second building on the left (first street/driveway). The garage is in the back.
Coming from the West on I-90 and South on I-71
Follow until you reach the East 9th street exit. Take East 9th north until you get to Lakeside (it will be a mile or two). Turn right on Lakeside (one of the last streets before you take the bridge over to North Harbor and Route 2). The Holiday Inn will be the second building on your left.
Coming from I-77
Follow I-77 north until you reach the city. Take the East 14th street exit (Exit 162B). Follow East 14th north until you reach Lakeside. Turn left on Lakeside. The hotel will be on your right.
Local travelers are welcome to use the hotel parking garage for a fee of $14 per day. Locals are also encouraged to locate additional "cheap" parking near the hotel, if they desire. The Cleveland Municipal lot is a short walk to the hotel. It is rumored that the lot is $2.50 per day, and the North Point parking garage located nearby is only $9.00 or so per day.
Local travelers are also encouraged to use the RTA and can look at the info and schedules below for Case students as it may be helpful in planning your trip in.
We of course encourage locals wishing to make the most of their experience to considering going in with friends to get a hotel room for the weekend. We assure you it will be worth your time and money and will save you the headaches and difficulties regarding parking and the RTA schedules.
Getting to the Hotel from the Case campus
The easiest and most direct way that doesn't involve a lot of walking is to take the RTA Red Line West to Tower City. Transfer to the Waterfront Line and get off at the North Coast station.
Note that the Rapid runs until about midnight and starts up again at Tower City at around 4 AM. The busses run 24 hours if you happen to miss your train.
Full schedules of all RTA lines can be found on their website.
