EXPERIENCE THE DEMOSCENE

Blockparty @ Notacon 2007 continues a decades-long worldwide party tradition in a rare North American setting

Cleveland, OH (March 20, 2007) -- BLOCKPARTY 2007 is an exciting 3-day multimedia event taking place this April 27-29, catering to those who have an interest in programming, graphics, animation and digital audio.

"Demo parties are a 20-year tradition," said Jason Scott, a co-organizer of the event. "They're an intersection of design and technology, where artists and programmers socialize, team up, and enter competitions to show off their skills. The theme is one of innovation and staying one step ahead of what's thought of as 'state of the art', while also keeping an eye on entertaining the judges and audience."

In multiple competitions, teams or single players enter their works of art or programming, which are shown up on the "big screen" halfway through the event. The audience and judges vote for the best productions, which are then given awards in the form of cash, equipment and memberships. Sponsors of prizes include Deviantart, Effector13, ACiD Productions, BBSDocumentary.com, Renoise, and Webfoot Games. In all, over $2000 in prizes are scheduled to be given across all the competitions.

Demoparties are rare in the United States, with most events of this nature being held in Europe. "We know firsthand how great these parties are, and there's only been about a dozen in the last 20 years in North America, so it seemed the right time to try and host one." said Jason Scott.

In their inaugural year, BLOCKPARTY has paired up with NOTACON, one of the largest art and technology conferences in the United States. Now in its fourth year, NOTACON features dozens of presentations and events of their own, ranging from network hardware skill contests to presentations by experts in all range of fields.

All are welcome -- whether you're an enthusiast, expert, or simply curious -- We hope to see you there!
