Fencing is a truly hackish sport.  Combining physicality and dexterity with intelligence and wisdom, it uses many of the same principles we use in our careers and hobbies.  Likewise, it is at the same time an adversarial and collaborative endeavor and there is always something new to learn.  Amy Clausen and Brian Stone, in their presentation, “The Sword is Mightier than the Pen(test): an Introduction to Fencing” will cover fencing basics including equipment and technique.  Afterwards those interested can actually try a few moves out (under the watch and direction of both presenters).  Below, Bill provides answers to our interview questions,

Who do you feel would benefit most from your presentation?
Anyone with an interest in swords and fitness.

What one concept or viewpoint would you like Notacon participants to walk away with?
Mind and body get an unparalleled workout from fencing.

When did you become interested in hacker culture and hacker conferences?
Primarily through a spunky, stabby relative.

Space operas produced in the late seventies, things under hill and Rivendell, and everything clashing steel.
